Head of Mathematics at Jumeirah English Speaking School (JESS)
Robert Bergin is now going into his 15th year in the field of education and has spent the past 10 years working in international schools. He has spent 8 of those years working in Dubai at JESS, one of the leading non-profit schools in the region. He has punctuated those 8 years with a two-year interlude working in Ho Chi Minh City at the British International School, Vietnam. He is currently Head of Mathematics at JESS and has previously been Head of Middle School in Vietnam as well as leading several pastoral roles in both Dubai and the UK. He is a firm believer in a ‘growth’ mindset and the impact this can have on students attainment in Mathematics. Once students know how their brains work then tackling difficult mathematical concepts becomes a whole lot easier.
The presentation will look at students’ mindset towards learning and understanding Mathematics here in the UAE. I will speak about how the brain works when it is trying to learn new mathematical concepts.
