Dr. Shafia Abdul Rahman is an Associate Professor at the Emirates College for Advanced Education, Abu Dhabi. She holds a PhD in Mathematics Education (Milton Keynes, UK). She has more than 20 years of experience teaching mathematics and preparing teachers to teach both primary and secondary mathematics, pre-service and in-service teachers. Dr. Shafia has extensive experience in conducting and monitoring teacher professional development programs. Her research interests include mathematical thinking and task designs that promote mathematical thinking and
technology in mathematics teaching and learning. She has also participated both nationally and internationally in a number of research activities in mathematics education such as developing number sense framework, Lesson Study in mathematics teaching and learning and exemplification in mathematics. Most recently, she worked on a Mathematics for Social Justice Project with a colleague at The University of Nottingham, England.
